Cheer For The Children
Minnesota • Hygiene & everyday essentials

Helping children focus on what truly matters: an education.

Cheer For The Children has one simple mission: help children focus on what truly matters, gaining an education. We provide hygiene items and everyday essentials to Minnesota students in need, through school social workers and support staff.

About us

Founded by Lillian Geyer

Cheer For The Children was founded by Lillian Geyer, Miss Twin Cities.

Access to hygiene products affects students' academic performance, attendance and mental health. When a student has what they need to feel clean, cared for and confident, they are free to focus on learning.

Our motto

Reach. Raise. Recruit.

Reach

Reaching those in need by providing support, resources and everyday essentials so they feel cared for and ready to succeed.

Raise

Raising funds and resources to adequately provide schools with the products students need.

Recruit

Recruiting community members with a heart for giving back, bridging the gap between those in need and those able to give.

How it works

A school drop-off, step by step

Donations go to school social workers and support staff β€” not directly to students and families β€” so the people who know each student's needs can get items to the right place.

We are always accepting donations and looking for schools and organizations to support.

  1. It starts with an email. Whether we reach out to a school or a school reaches out to us.
  2. Find a date. Together, we find a date and time for the drop-off.
  3. Deliver the donations. Items go to the school's social workers and support staff.
  4. Connect about needs. After the drop-off, we connect with staff to learn their needs.

Why it matters

Hygiene is a hidden barrier to learning

Fact: many public schools keep a closet of hygiene items and everyday essentials for students in need. These closets often run empty, and staff end up buying necessities out of their own pockets. Your donations support students and the staff who care for them.

A 2024 survey by Open Cupboard MN and Bridge to Basics found that:

53%

of food shelf shoppers spent less on food in order to afford hygiene products.
